No, not at the birds. At the “birds.”
Those aren’t seagulls circling your car. They’re FLOCK cameras — the latest high-tech flock of electronic snitches that Big Tech and law enforcement have unleashed on American streets. And just like real birds, they’re busy doing what birds do best: leaving a big, steaming mess all over your privacy.
The FLOCK system is marketed as a crime-fighting miracle. In reality, it’s an always-on surveillance net that tracks your every move — even if you’ve never so much as jaywalked. License plate, location, time of day, route… all recorded, stored, and shared without a warrant, without suspicion, and without your consent. You don’t have to commit a crime to be watched. You just have to drive.

Eighteen law-enforcement officers in the Peach State have already been caught using the FLOCK system to stalk their ex-wives and girlfriends. Not to solve murders. Not to catch drug traffickers. Just good old-fashioned personal surveillance of women they used to date. Because nothing says “protect and serve” like weaponizing a statewide camera network for romantic revenge.
So how do we fight back against this Big Tech surveillance creep? Here are some specific, practical ways:
Document and share
Photograph or note every FLOCK camera you see. Post the locations on social media, local Facebook groups, and community boards. The more public the map becomes, the harder it is for officials to claim “we only use them for serious crime.”
File public records requests
Use your state’s Freedom of Information / public records laws to demand answers: How many cameras? Where are they? How long is data stored? Who has access? Which agencies share the data? Make them put it in writing.
Contact your local officials
Call or email your city council members, county commissioners, and sheriff. Ask them point-blank if they have a contract with FLOCK (or similar systems) and demand a public hearing. Many of these deals were signed quietly — sunshine kills cockroaches.
Push for real legislation
Demand warrant requirements, short data-retention limits (days, not years), and felony-level penalties for personal misuse. The Georgia cases prove that without strict rules, the system will be abused by the people sworn to protect us.
Support privacy groups and candidates
Back organizations fighting warrantless surveillance and vote for local candidates who take privacy seriously. Local elections matter more than most people realize when it comes to these contracts.
Talk about it everywhere
