Shutdown Schumer

Cartoon published 03/13/2025

Chuck Schumer is at it again. Back in 2018 when Trump was president, Schumer and his party threatened to shut the government down over the funding of a wall on the US/Mexican border.

Now Schumer is at it again. He has been meeting with House Minority Leader Jeffries to work out a strategy that will make matters difficult and keep the short-term funding bill from passing. It has already passed in the Republican-controlled House, but it needs 60 votes in the Senate, which means it Democrat votes are required.

The only Republican in the House to vote ’no’ was the anti-Trump Thomas Massie of Kentucky. President Trump has vowed to make sure Massie is not reelected.

The short-term funding bill carries on Democrat spending from the Biden era, but Schumer is complaining regardless. Maybe he’s actually upset because the bill will cut a billion dollars from the budget of District of Columbia. The DOGE team has been furiously cutting useless bureaucracy in D.C., which negates the need for that billion—but regardless, Schumer and his spendthrift Democrats are making a a fuss. They are desperate to make Trump and Musk look like bad guys.

Senator Rand Paul and perhaps other Republicans may vote ‘no,’ and it remains to be seen, but if the Democrats continue to gum up the works we may soon see a government shutdown. You can thank Shutdown Schumer if it happens.
